DeSean a top 5 pick??
The Raiders pick a RB in the first (maybe) and a CB in the second (unlikely) when their top needs are DT, DE and OL. Maybe WR…
February 7, 2008 at 2:22 pm
Come on! Take a look at OT alone. No Chris Williams in the first 2 rounds? The second OT taken at #16? Clady at #17? Tony Hills and Barry Richardson in the early second round (both 4th rounders or worse). It is early, but this is bad.
February 7, 2008 at 2:43 pm
The Raiders will never take a CB in round 2:
- Asomugha will be be tagged or will sign a big deal. Al Davis love defensive backs, once he got a good one, he will never let him go ala Charles Woodson, who was tagged all years until he was injured all time, plus Asomugha wants to stay.
- Fabian Washington (2005 Round 1), Stanford Routt (2005 Round 2), Bowie (2007 Round 4) and CB/FS Chris Carr all are under-25 years old and under contract.
Oakland will take a DL or WR in round 2, depending what they pick in round 1, which actually I dont think will be McFadden. They will go after Chris Long, Dorsey or Ellis in that order.
February 7, 2008 at 3:35 pm
I really don’t think the Steelers go for a Defensive end in the first round due to the fact the Steelers are about to lose their all-star guard (if they can’t come to an agreement of extension for him) and a very good tackle in Max Starks whom was beaten out of the Right tackle spot and played really well at Left Tackle at the end of the year
February 8, 2008 at 6:12 pm
I sort of agree with RB. Buffalo has two basic needs on offense; a reliable pass catching TE who can stretch the middle of the field, and a big athletic WR who can be a redzone threat. So with Hardy still on the board who do you have slotted for Buffalo’s pick? Why yet another smurf for a team that’s filled with them: Lee Evans 5′10″, Josh Reed 5′10″ Peerless Price 5′11″ Roscoe Parrish 5′9″. They have one receiver on the roster over 6′. That’s Sam Aiken at 6′2″ and he’s an unrestricted free agent who’s never been anything more than a special teamer. You blew it. Rivers was fine in round 1 at least.
February 8, 2008 at 10:38 pm
i agree with rob.
i am a big time seattle fan and understand that the run needs some depth.
NATIONALLY mendenhall is ranked 2-4 as a RB.
it would be a still if i he didnt go in the first round.
and have you seen felix jones’ footage. that guy is great,
yet nowhere to be found in the first round.
to be practical, it wouldnt make sense for either of these two guys to go into the second round, nevertheless that late in.
February 9, 2008 at 2:54 am
Felix Jones?
RESPONSE: Felix is a very good RB who will likely be a victim of supply and demand. Few NFL teams are desperate for RBs and most know they can find bargins in the middle rounds.
February 9, 2008 at 3:34 am
No Rodgers-Cromartie in 2 rds?
February 9, 2008 at 6:48 pm
Cherilus is nothing better than a second round pick!! I agree, why isn’t Chris Williams in either of these 2 rounds? Williams stock went up during the Senior Bowl. If anything…The Steelers would take Chris Williams over Gosder Cherilus…
RESPONSES: 6 out of 7 prospecting ranking sites disagree with you.
February 10, 2008 at 12:14 am
Woodenson is falling and Chad Henne is alot better pick up. The falcons have the 3rd pick by the way. Atlanta should really take Mcfadden, then Henne in round two.
RESPONSE: The Falcons should take McFadden, however they don’t have the third pick yet. A coin toss will determine who get what in the three-way tie between the Falcons, Raiders & Chiefs.
February 10, 2008 at 12:49 am
QUESTION: Why is DeSean Jackson in your top 5? It simply is not going to happen, he is barely going to break the top 20, the Chiefs dont need a WR that bad man. They take Sedrick Ellis way before they take Jackson, no debate.
ANSWER: Their Cheifs’ top 3 needs today are OL, CB, WR. Desean Jackson could go anywhere between 5th and 20th, but he is the best WR available. The cheifs are hoping Jake Long falls, but if doesn’t the next best OT (Ryan Clady) is not quite a top ten prospect. And finally there are no CBs in the top twenty.
I suspect Jackson will prove his worth at the combine.
February 10, 2008 at 9:11 pm
2 things……1st…..Rashard Mendenhall will go first round……and second…..the Bears will jump on Joe Flacco if he’s available in the second round…..Jerry Angelo is really in love with him…….Can you blame him? Joe was smart enough to transfer out from under Dave Wanstead…..Bears pull trigger for him
February 14, 2008 at 8:10 pm
The jaguars will sign Asante Samuel. Del Rio loves the guy. Taking an DE first is credible, but a OG. We are set at OL and that is what our deepest part of our team is. We will draft Craig Steltz to go along with Reggie Nelson. Two of the best safeties the SEC has ever produced. It will give us that play maker in Nelson and that hard hitter in Stetlz
February 15, 2008 at 12:20 am
I agree wholeheartily with Alan J about the Buffalo picks. Rivers is fine in Round 1 but the last thing the Bills need is another short WR. Hardy will be the pick in Round 2 if he is still available. Their other option is to go with Malcolm Kelly in Round 1 and Ali Highsmith in Round 2.
February 19, 2008 at 4:00 am
derek anderson will get traded to the bears for a 1st 2nd and 3rd round pick so they will get 2 dlineman and a running back if slaton is still there go ahead but if mendenhall or someone like that is still there jump him i doubt he will be but still
February 19, 2008 at 10:47 pm
bro your draft is seriously killing me. Jones and especially Mendenhall will be mid to late first round picks at best and even higher if they grade out well at the combine.
February 20, 2008 at 4:33 am
It looks like you listened to me in your most recent update. You, like a lot of mock drafters now have Buffalo picking Malcolm Kelly. It could go differently, but that is a very reasonable pick, as is Adibi in round 2. This is a much more reasonable draft with respect to the Bills.
February 29, 2008 at 10:59 pm
Has anyone done their research on DE Brian Johnston..There’s some sort of conspiracy with his talents because he’s easily a 1st round draft pick and if the combine would’ve invited him he would’ve had the BEST numbers in every category for his size and weight but for some reason their trying to cover up his skills..They really need to do something about this because it’s not right. Wait unitl his pro day (I gaurantee he’s gonna have better numbers than Chris Long in every aspect yet that probably still won’t solidify him being a first round pick i just don’t get it!!!
March 1, 2008 at 8:59 pm
Steelers will chose two OLinemen in their first three choices, but the non-OL will neither be a Safety or an Inside Linebacker.
March 2, 2008 at 5:07 am
I like the first round pick of Baker being the Steelers pick…but going for an Middle Linebacker (even though James Farrior is up there in age, I’ll give you credit for that) before a Defensive end or Defensive Tackle is crazy…I would say the Steelers would draft a guard (Branden Albert) and a corner back in the third round?
March 4, 2008 at 3:33 am
The first free agent Buffalo signed was Kawika Mitchell who played weak side linebacker for the Giants last season. The Bills envision him filling the same roll for them. Keith Ellison, while a little undersized and lacking athleticism for a starter, is fine as a reserve, as is DiGeorgio backing up Posluszny at MLB. That means it’s highly unlilkely the Bills will draft Erin Henderson in round 2. It’s more likely they will take the best available TE or CB in round two and fill the need that remains of those two in round 3.
March 4, 2008 at 3:33 am
I like the first two picks…definitely taking the better linemen in the first two rounds (Baker and Albert)…but I think the Steelers would go after a Defensive End, Defensive Tackle or Cornerback in the third
March 6, 2008 at 2:01 am
KC won’t reach on Clady. Herm during the combine said on the NFL Network that he doesn’t overvalue positions/players for need, but he wants starters if it’s at another position that they have rated on the draft board they’ll select him. change that pick to Sedrick Ellis because KC has a History in taking top performers at the Senior Bowl
March 6, 2008 at 5:56 pm
The Giants have long term needs at WR and OL but more pressing, immediate needs at DB and OLB. Taking a WR when you project DRC still being available in the first round just does not make sense unless you are assuming that they are going to trade for Hall (I hope not).
March 6, 2008 at 10:48 pm
This stinks, why would the chargers waste a rd 1 pick on a backup running back
March 7, 2008 at 2:28 am
Honestly, it looks like this draft was just thrown together in about 5 min. No way does Parcells draft Matt Ryan after signing Josh McCown and drafting John Beck LAST YEAR in the 2nd round! They will draft 1 of the 2 Long’s or trade out, which isn’t likely.
March 7, 2008 at 3:36 pm
Your draft is okay, but the Dolphins will not take Ryan in round 1 and then Woodson in round 2. They’re desperate for a QB but I doubt if they’re that despeate.
March 10, 2008 at 10:43 pm
Well, now that DE Brian Johnston had one of his pro days at San Diego State you cant argue with his numbers anymore..He ran a 4.66 in the 40yard, put up 33 reps of 225lb on the bench (they didnt count the first five because they said he wasn’t locking his arms), and he had a 4.18 in his pro shuttle, and jumped 35 1/2 on his vertical. His next pro day is at Wake Forest and DE Jeremy Thompson probably shouldn’t show up if he knows whats good for him because at this time he’s ranked about six spots higher then Brian but when they both have they’re pro day together you’ll see that Brian is much more a beast than even Chris Long. It’s because he comes from a small school that he lacks attention but tell me this: DOES CHRIS LONG OR VERNON GHOLSTON HAVE 100 OR MORE PEOPLE SHOWING UP JUST TO SEE THEM?????
March 13, 2008 at 4:15 pm
Steelers would not go for a linebacker in the second round two years in a row…plus they just signed Keyaron Fox for depth…so why? I still think they draft Branden Flowers, CB out of Va Tech or Roy Scheuning, G out of Oregon State
March 13, 2008 at 8:07 pm
Patriots can get excellent o-line prospects in rounds 4-7. They should take a LB or DB in the 2nd(ie Jonathan Goff or Charles Godfrey)
March 24, 2008 at 8:42 pm
I doubt the Packers would pick LB Dan Connor in the 1st. They signed Brandon Chillar to push Brady Poppinga at SLB. A.J. Hawk is WLB and Nick Barnett is MLB. A 1st round pick seems a little high and expensive for a backup LB. CB Antoine Cason at #30 makes more sense. That means the #56 pick wouldn’t have to be CB Justin King. Depending on the Ryan Grant situation, a RB, maybe, Matt Forte could be taken.
March 27, 2008 at 2:10 am
The Jets get Chris Long AND Felix Jones?
I must be drunk again.
March 29, 2008 at 5:52 am
It would be great if the niners actually got albert, jackson, and avery in the first three rounds. Albert can back up G and T. Jackson is a great DE/OLB for the D. Avery fits martz’s scheme to a t. BUT how does lawrence jackson get drafted twice??????????
March 29, 2008 at 2:52 pm
You are closer to being correct with the packers pick than the Packers reaching for a Cornerback they can get the same value in the second round. Good Job
March 30, 2008 at 2:46 am
If Chris Williams would be available for the Steelers to draft at #23…They would definitely take him way before Sam Baker..
April 1, 2008 at 5:42 pm
Thank you for including the supplemental draft choices in your mock draft. I don’t think Matt Ryan will be there for the ravens at #8 — but i can always hope…
April 2, 2008 at 10:29 pm
Lions need to go with Rashard Mendenhall in the 1st round if avaliable but if not they need to go with an offensive lineman.; In the second round they should go with an defensive lineman. 3rd round you have to think running back like UCF’s Kevin Smith so they can have a premiere running back. Smith led the nation in rushing yards and scoring with 2,567 yrds and 29 TD’s on the ground and 1 recieving TD. Smith is a real sleeper in this years draft.
April 3, 2008 at 4:11 am
I seriously doubt the Packers would take an OG in the first round, especially one that doesn’t fit their style. Besides, they’ve drafted 4 OGs in the last three drafts. No need for them to draft an OG that high.
April 4, 2008 at 9:17 pm
I don’t totally agree with Darren McFadden going 4th he is a tremedaus athlete that has incredible speed but I think the right choice at #4 is Vernon Gholston. They do have Derrik Burgess but who is on the other side? Well they have Kalimba Edwards but I don’t think hes fit to the expectations. Either is Tommy Kelly and Jay Richardson is better suited as a backup. Vernon Gholston is 6 ft 4 in and weighs 264 pounds. He also has a 4.65 forty time. You cant go wrong with that. I know Al Davis loves his atheletes but I think Vernon Gholston would be the better pick
April 4, 2008 at 9:29 pm
Oh ya and there is another DE in the draft that is a tremendous football player his name is Brian Johnston he is the sleeper in my draft. He is very good.
April 6, 2008 at 4:26 am
Really interesting mock. I fundamentally disagree with the Saints picks.
Rd 1: I disagree with them taking McKelvin. It’s not a bad pick, but the need to recreate the “Dome Patrol” is pretty strong. Coach is PISSED about the lack of attacking the QB from last year, so I would think that if Gholsten or either of Ellis/Dorsey boys slip, they’ll trade up with NE to grab them. At the 10 spot, Rivers seems to be the most likely candidate.
Rd 2: IF there is no transaction for Shockey, the top TE prospect will go to them. It is a real and pressing need.
Rd: 3; As has been evidenced, OL is always a concern. You select a DT for the Saints when the number one center prospect is on the board. Pollack should be a Saint, hands down…. well before a low graded DT.
Please accep this as a suggestion, not some ranting lunatic….just food for thought
April 12, 2008 at 2:47 am
whoever made this is retarded. the bears will not go for a wideout in the first round or a runningback in the second. they will go for an offensive lineman in the first and maybbe even in the second. aqib talib going to the eagles. wow, you must not have any idea of what has been going on in free agency. the first 5 or 6 picks are seeming to be pretty accurate, but i would never take this mock draft seriously.
April 13, 2008 at 7:20 am
Thats true Mike saints lacked the pressure on the Qb they only got to the Qb 32 times in the seson near the end of the pack but i belive they should either go with: 1. Domique Rodgers-Cromartie he blew scouts away at the combine running a 4.33, By picking up jason david wasnt much help because well hes not a great player but by picking up cromartie they would have a number 1 cb for years to come.
April 13, 2008 at 7:22 am
Oh ya and Glenn Dorsey is going #3 not Matt Ryan.
April 13, 2008 at 5:38 pm
I hope none of you so called pro mockers does not quit your day job, for you would definitely starve to death. You all don’t know sh!% about what the Cowboys needs. Get it right, I will help you and this is in order. CB CB WR RB SS NT. Your not going to have 2 first round picks at running back. (Well unless your the Saints or the Bears which turned out to be a bust) Because basically that is what you have now in MB III. Running back was not the problem last year, it was CB.
April 14, 2008 at 2:49 am
49ers have no choise about taking two 0linemen in first three rounds the man making that choise(scott) has said they have to spend two of the first 3 rounds on olinemen.
April 14, 2008 at 12:50 pm
3 Round mock for the Giants will be something like this;
1- Smith, CB/S Oklahoma
2- E.Henderson, OLB maryland
3- R. Bryant, DT, Texas A&M
April 14, 2008 at 3:40 pm
There is no way the KC Chiefs take Jonathan Stewart in the second round. They have more pressing needs like MORE o-Line help and CB
April 14, 2008 at 6:09 pm
Gosder Cherilus is a good pick for the Steelers in the first round…Would probably be starting at Right Tackle…moving Colon to guard as a back up…Cherilus also has experience at Left Tackle
April 14, 2008 at 6:41 pm
rb’s stewart and jones will be in the top 25 picks
April 17, 2008 at 6:29 pm
Solid work. I am a big fan of the guys who are bold enough to try to predict multiple rounds of the draft. I, unfortunately, am not one of those guys! Here is my version of how I think things will go down: http://www.docsports.com/current/nfl-mock-draft.html
I will say a couple things:
1) Living in Atlanta, the locals really aren’t big on Matt Ryan. Atlanta may want to get a QB Of The Future to try to help put the Vick stuff behind them, but the fans would much prefer Dorsey.
2) Malcolm Kelly won’t go before No. 25. He completely flamed out in his workout and then whined about it afterwards.
3) No way Felix Jones lasts that long.
Keep up the good work.
April 17, 2008 at 7:19 pm
Also, does anyone know when the last draft was that only saw one QB taken in the first round? It’s kind of nice that people aren’t fawning all over these above-average signal callers, but on the other hand some teams are going to be able to steal some talent in Round 2 (Henne and Brohm, namely). Really hope one of those two arms fall to my Bears in the second round.
April 17, 2008 at 9:30 pm
Forget Jeff Otah. The Lions will not even bring him in for a visit. If they take a OL in the first round it will be Clady, Albert, Williams in that order. The rest of the draft for the Lions is okay, I like Johnson as well, but I think the Lions love Mayo and if he is there in the Second round they will take him without hesitating and take a RB in the third round.
April 25, 2008 at 6:23 pm
Okay, ya blew the Seahawks picks. You should look at team needs. We wouldnt pick a 2nd round TE in the first. ESPECIALLY if Stewart is available. We would take Stewart with the first pick, Martellus Bennet with the 2nd round pick…not a LB when we have NO NEED for one. A WR with the 3rd rounder, maybe, but you have the guy Avery picked TWICE. Come on. If you are gonna do a Mock, at least put some time and research into it.
